SNOWBIRD SOCIAL EVENT
IEEE SECON 2011 will include the Snowbird Social Event on Wednesday, June 29th, 2011.
Our Tour Bus departs the Sheraton at 5pm, so don't be late! We'll take a charter bus from downtown
Salt Lake up Little Cottonwood Canyon to Snowbird (a 45 minute drive, refreshments provided on the bus).
Snowbird has been ranked the top US ski resort in North America – during the summer, it offers a wide
variety of mountain adventure activities.
Once we arrive at Snowbird, you will be given two single-ride passes, good for any of the following mountain activities:
- Alpine slide: The Alpine Slide winds down Chickadee Run through twists, turns and tunnels.
It starts near the top of Snowbird Entry 4 and finishes 1,300 linear feet later near the Snowbird Center.
Practiced and inexperienced sliders alike will enjoy the ride down the twisting, turning, dual track slide –
the driver controls the speed. No special skills are needed.
- Aerial tram ride: Snowbird’s Aerial tram whisks passengers along a 1.6 mile cable and up 2900
vertical feet during the 10 minute trip to the top of Hidden Peak, which has a spectacular vista.
During the ascent your tram operator will offer a short commentary, describing the tram and surrounding
points of interest. The round trip can be done in 40 minutes, including about 20 minutes of sightseeing on
Hidden Peak, but guests may spend as long on the peak as they wish. Several hiking trails can be accessed from Hidden Peak.
- Peruvian Chair and Tunnel to Mineral Basin: The “Peruvian Express” chair transports sightseers over 2,400
vertical feet from near the Snowbird Center towards Hidden Peak. Stunning views and close-up wildlife sightings are
plentiful on this 16-minute ride through Peruvian Gulch. The entrance to the first tunnel of its kind in North America
beckons at the top of the Peruvian Express chairlift. A casual walk through the 600-foot-long tunnel provides access to
Mineral Basin. Tickets for the Peruvian chairlift and the Tram are interchangeable, allowing guests to ride up on one lift
and down on the other, which makes for a nice round trip. There is a short downhill hike on the jeep trail between the top of
the Tram and the top of Peruvian Express.
- ZipRider: The ZipRider carries harnessed riders over 1,000 linear feet down a suspended cable from the top of
Chickadee to the Snowbird Center. Climb the spiral stairs up the impressive 50 foot tower, strap into the special
ZipRider harness and launch from the deck to begin your flight down the 1000 foot zip line span to the landing deck next to
the tram building! Wave to onlookers below as you fly through the air at 30 mph! To ride the ZipRider, you must weigh between 75-275 lbs.
- Ropes Course: Fasten yourself into a harness and take a walk high above ground on Snowbird’s Ropes Course. Located near
the Chickadee Bowl, this course might challenge your fear of heights and your sense of balance. Please, no sandals or open-toed shoes.
- Euro Bungy: Billed as 1/2 Trampoline and 1/2 Bungy, the Bungy Trampoline requires no previous experience and is a fun
activity for people of all ages and abilities. You must meet weight requirements in order to ride (35lbs-230lbs).
- Climbing Wall: Snowbird has a 4-Station Climbing Wall. No prior climbing experience is necessary, but participants
must weigh a minimum of 40 lbs and a maximum of 250 lbs. Harness provided.
There is more information about these activities and more at the
Snowbird summer activities site,
including hiking trail maps, information about dining options and
other mountain activities.
The mountain activities end at 8pm. Between 8–9 pm, you can join our group for a pizza dinner on the upstairs patio
of the Snowbird Center. Our bus leaves from in front of the Snowbird Center at 9pm.
