MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL CHAIR
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Eighth Annual IEEE Communications Society Conference on Sensor, Mesh and Ad Hoc Communications and Networks (SECON). It is indeed my honor to serve as the General Chair of this conference, which is being organized at Salt Lake City, Utah, USA during June 27-30, 2011.

We have an outstanding technical program, starting with an NSF-funded Workshop on Information and Communications Technologies for Sustainability (WICS). The main conference will include two excellent keynote presentations. Dr. Victor Bahl will talk about “Putting the Cloud in the Palm of your Hand”, and Professor Jim Kurose will deliver a talk entitled, “Cyber-physical systems: linking sensing, networking, computation, and people.” A very exciting set of technical papers will be presented during the conference. We have also scheduled a session for poster and demos, which will aid to the technical talks. Overall, we will cover a broader set of emerging topics on ad hoc, mesh, and sensor networks.

During the conference, we provide ample opportunities for networking with attendees from various parts of the world. The Welcome Reception and the N^2 Women events will augment the main social event at Snowbird. We encourage you to enjoy these organized events while venturing further in Salt Lake City.

For the success of this conference, there are indeed many people to thank. The TPC Chairs, Sneha Kasera and Lili Qiu did an outstanding job in selecting and organizing a very high quality program. Joseph Camp and Ioannis Broustis played very vital roles as the Publication Chair and Web Chair, respectively. The Workshop chairs, Krishna Kant and Xin Liu were instrumental in handling a lot of logistics for the WICS workshop. I am grateful to Kyu-han Kim and Ahmed Helmy for handling the Posters and Demo session. Neal Patwari did an outstanding job as our Local Arrangement Chair. Wenjing Lou provided immense help in coordinating the student’s travel award. I am very indebted to Fred Bauer, the Steering Committee Chair for help in all aspects of the conference planning. Sung-ju Lee was also very helpful in advising on a variety of issues. Last but not the least; I appreciate all the help and support from Gayle Weisman from IEEE ComSoc. She kept us on-track for the timely completion of the tasks. The organizing committee is very grateful to Hewlett-Packard Company and the National Science Foundation for their generous support.

I hope you will have a rewarding experience and an enjoyable time at the conference. Please exploit the opportunity to visit Salt Lake City and the adjoining picturesque areas.
